West End throw away two-goal lead at home

-

Sunderland West End threw away a two-goal lead as they were held to a home draw by Gateshead Leam Rangers.

The main action of the first-half saw West End winger James Cassidy hobble off with a hamstring injury as his side failed to break down an organised Leam Rangers outfit.

That all changed just after the hour-mark when Butler finally broke their resistance and then added a second with 13 minutes left.

However, West End had to settle for a point as goals from Rob Hayes and Sam Manning got the visitors back on level-terms.

Silksworth CW made it three wins from their opening four games of the season with a comfortable home victory against Richmond Town.

Fraser Colling and Adam Storey got the goals for Silksworth as they built on their impressive Total Sport Alan Hood Charity Cup win over Boldon CA on Saturday.

Harton and Westoe CW came out on top in a seven-goal thriller against Horden CW.

Early goals from Grant Pressling and Dan Nolan put Harton in control but they were pegged back by Robert Renwick goal on eleven minutes.

Jordan Fenwick restored Harton’s two-goal advantage midway through the first-half but Renwick’s second goal of the night got the visitors back into it as half-time approached.

He completed his hattrick just two minutes after the restart but Fenwick was Harton’s match-winner as his close-range finish sealed the points for his side.

There was another remarkable seven-goal game at Brinkburn Road as Windscale came from three goals down to secure a 4-3 win against Darlington RA.

It was a historic night for West Auckland Tunns as they secured their first points as a Wearside League club with a 5-2 home win over Annfield Plain. Liam Blighe led the way for the Tunns with four goals and Mason Steed grabbed the other as they got off the mark for the season.
