What do you think of the show so far? Sunderland have played four games and performed at least quite well in them all.

The only defeat was in the League Cup and therefore of little consequence, other than the foregone chance of making a few quid from it.

Of the players at the club before this summer, Lynden Gooch has shone as expected in League One. Josh Maja has been a big bonus, particularly in light of the paucity of striking options.

However, the best we can say about Aim Öztürk is that we hope his early performances are not indicative of his capabilities.

Whatever. If he isn’t up to it, bear in mind that Sunderland have recruited 15 players since June. Any club doing this can expect at least one dud among them.

Besides, if, as expected, Öztürk is fourth or fifth choice centre-back at a third tier club; how good is he expected to be?

I don’t wish to dwell on the done-to-death topic of individu-
