Big-hearted Kira Lisgo is hitting the road to help sick kids.

The Seaham five-year-old is taking part in the MiniGreat North Run on September 8 on behalf of the Sick Children’s Trust.

The charity provides accommodation for families to stay close to the hospital when their child is seriously ill, allowing them to focus on proving support without worrying about hotel costs.

Mum Vikki said Kira had always been mature for her age. “She is five, going on 55,” she said.

The Ropery Walk Primary School pupil had been inspired to raise money for poorly children by the story of Bradley Lowery’s fight against neuroblastoma.

“When Bradley was ill, I followed his story and Kira got very interested in it,” said Vikki.

“She wanted to raise money for Bradley, so we did a sponsored walk.”

The pair collected almost £800 for Bradley, and Kira wanted to continue raising money after the Blackhall youngster’s death, so the pair had taken part in a sponsored walk on behalf of the Sick Children’s Trust.

When Vikki explained the charity’s work, Kira wanted to do more to help.

So far, they have raised about £400.

“I told her all about the charity while we were doing the sponsored walk,” said Vikki.

“The trust has accommodation at two hospitals so parents don’t have to pay for hotels.

“When I told her what it did, she said she wanted to raise money because if she was ever poorly and in hospital, she would like to think her mummy was close by.

“She is a little star. She is not only asking for sponsors to help raise money, she has also got a money box, where she is putting as much in as possible herself before the run.”
