Linsley back for Burnmoor ahead of big Burnopfield battle

-

Second-top Burnmoor entertain South Shields on Saturday with skipper Alec Linsley back in the side.

He said: “Ross Hodgson is back from suspension, while Gareth Harte is also back from his Durham fixtures.

“Dropping out are Riley Blunt, Lee Henderson, and Alan Worthy - only out for Saturday - but back on Monday for the titanic match-up against Burnopfield!

“It was a big hiccup last week, but we need to be back on track if the league is to be won.”

Leaders Burnopfield travel to Gateshead Fell, with a 14-point lead and will fancy their chances against a team who have managed only four wins this season.

The home side has had a great season so far and will be looking for their 13th win of the season, to keep the pressure on Burnmoor below them.

Washington travel to thirdplaced Castle Eden, and skipper Ash Thorpe said: “Daniel Wolston and Mark Watson both return to the ranks and giving way are Andrew Stephenson and Jordan Matthews, who are both second teamers.

“It’s a tough game on Saturday, as Castle Eden are in good nick at present and also thrashed us at home earlier in the season!

“Revenge should be in the air but that’s a big ask. Who knows what can happen on the day?”

Sunderland, in fourth, travel to fifth-top Brandon.

Skipper Greg Applegarth remarked: “We have a full squad to pick from, but only likely to be one change.

“Johnny Shurben is back and will replace Jack Johnson.

“This will be a tough encounter, with match-winners on both sides, so all depends on what happens on the day.”

Boldon can confirm their safety with a win at bottom club Blaydon. who have managed only one win all season.

The visitors would probably take a draw from the game as well, which would not be a bad result if it ensures safety for them.
