WINGER SCORES TWICE IN THE SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT HORDEN CW

-

Silksworth CW bounced back from Saturday’s home defeat at the hands of Hartlepool FC in the best possible way in the Wearside League last night.

They came away from Horden CW with a 2-0 win thanks to a second-half brace from winger Mubaraq George and that makes it four wins in their last five games in all competitions.

Mike McGee and Phil Otele were on the scoresheet once again as Wolviston stayed top of the table with a 5-2 home win over Darlington Town.

Richmond Town and Hebburn Town Reserves both kept up the pressure on leaders Wolviston by picking up maximum points with comprehensive wins.

Two goals from Ryan Bolam helped Hebburn to 4-1 win at Annfield Plain and that keeps them two points behind the leaders.

Richmond are a further three points point after goals from Ben Darville, Jason Newall and Adam Walker gave them to a 3-0 home win over struggling Darlington RA.

Two goals from Liam Blighe weren’t enough to secure West Auckland Tunns’ second win in a week as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Coxhoe Athletic.

Stephen Clifford and Jamie Gordon got the goals for Athletic as they picked up their first point of the season.

A late Robbie Hayes strike helped Gateshead Leam Rangers snatch a point as they came from 3-1 down to secure a 3-3 draw against Harton and Westoe CW.

In the Northern League, Seaham Red Star could not make it three wins in a week as they were beaten at inform Dunston UTS.

Lee Hetherington gave Red Star a surprise lead on 13 minutes but the hosts were back on level terms by halftime thanks to an own goal from Anthony Myers.

Two goals in seven minutes from Mark Fitzpatrick and Scott Heslop were enough to move Dunston to the top of the Division One table.

In Division Two, Washington’s wait for a league win goes on after they were condemned to a 3-1 defeat at West Allotment Celtic.

Rhyse Williams had got Washington back on level terms after Michael Baxter put the hosts in front but another goal from Baxter and one from Dean Walker gave Celtic all three points.

Livingston are expected to announce Gary Holt as their new manager in the coming days.

Holt is reported to have accepted an offer to succeed Kenny Miller, with the deal set to be finalised before Saturday’s Ladbrokes Premiership encounter at St Mirren.

Holt was in the frame to take over from David Hopkin in the summer after the former Leeds midfielder stepped down weeks after sealing a second consecutive promotion for the club.

Miller was instead appointed in a player/manager role but left on Sunday after both parties agreed to terminate the contract.

Former Scotland international Holt was manager of Falkirk for just over a year before leaving to take on a job as first-team coach with Norwich in the summer of 2014.
