Pounder at the double as champs seal win

Premier Division champions Peterlee Catholic Club got their season up and running with goals from Jack Pounder (2), Chris Freeman, Gary Shaw and Luke Wallace in a 5-1 win against Seaham Marlboroug­h, whose consolatio­n goal came from Chris Dormand.

Easington Lane WMC were hit for 10 goals when they lost to fancied Dawdon Welfare Park. Kyle Bell and Marc Ruddock both fired hat tricks, with other goals from Callum Munro (2), Robbie Bird and Dan Armstrong.

Easington Colliery Mechanics defeated Murton Colliery 4-1 with Rhys Williams, Tom Bott, Nathan Graham and Ryan Douglas all on target.

A hat trick from John Bowes and two goals from James Conner saw Horden DLI beat Peterlee Helford United 5-3, with the replies coming from Aaron Coulson, Rhys Turnbull and James Langan.

In the First Division, Shotton Comrades had an emphatic 8-0 win against Seaham the Knack thanks to a hat-trick from Philip Hickman, and others from Warren French (2), Paul Cudlip, Jai Grant and Michael Metcalfe.

A strike from Liam Houghton proved to be enough for South Hetton CC as they won 1-0 win against Peterlee Hearts.

Easington Leather Cap, promoted from the Second Division, cruised to 12-1 win against Easington Welfare with Josh Lincoln coming on as a sub to hit a four-timer. Darren Major netted twice, with the remainder of goals coming from Wayne Micallef, Andrew Cook, Jay Jobson and Jordan Williams.

In the Second Division, three clubs in New Seaham Westlea, Wingate Howden and Haswell Oddfellows Arms all made it two wins from two and share the lead at the top of the table with six points each.

Goals from Connor Mutimer, Matthew Mustard and Gavin Maddison gave the Parkside Club a 3-0 win against Sherburn United, while Oddfellows Arms won 3-2 against Peterlee Acre Rigg Social thanks to goals from Arthur Dolan, Robert Lewis and Andrew Davidson.

Simon Jacobs scored four goals, and Josh Elliott three, as New Seaham Westlea won 14-1 against newcomers East Durham FC.
