MOODY NETS SUPERB SOLO GOAL IN VICTORY

-

Penshaw Over-40s maintained their position at the top of the league with a 3-0 home win against promoted Ferryhill, who have strengthened their squad with players from Spennymoor who resigned from the league last season.

The game was even for the first half hour with the better chances and the better play coming from Penshaw.

A close-range header from Brett Cummings put Penshaw in front and they dominated thereafter with some quality football.

The next goal was a fantastic solo mazy run from the halfway line by Chris Moody, and the third was a great turn and volley from Luke Charlesworth, after a great ball from Trevor Laidler.

Stand-in keeper Wes Hall was solid for Penshaw and Chris Liddle received the man-of-the-match award.

The Ferryhill keeper prevented further late goals.

Houghton CC recorded a 3-1 win against Willow Pond.

Willow Pond started brightly with Gary Golightly shooting straight at Houghton keeper Jimmy Hassan when through.

Houghton replied with a counter-attack on the left. A high cross that ricocheted between Willow keeper Patrick Lesca and centre-half Andy Norman, fell for Hugh Dalglish to head home.

Golightly had another shot saved that fell to Ralph Dodd. His cross back across the goal gave Golightly a tapin for the equaliser before half-time.

Houghton took the game to Pond in the second half and Norman cleared from his line after running back from the halfway line.

Houghton winger Keith Ridley carved into the box past the away defence and his low cross gave Lesca a bad bobble, the ball hitting his shoulder - and Allan Jones fired home unmarked at the far post.

Willow tried to pull the game back, David Kelly weaving his magic but seeing his shot turned round the post by the impressive Hassan.

Pond were open to the counter-attack and fell behind again when Micky Forster beat the offside trap to make it 3-1 to the home side.

Lesca made a fantastic one-handed save and again with his legs to keep the score down.

Forster, for Houghton, headed wide from a freekick, while Norman was again on hand to clear the lines.

Rolls Royce claimed a 1-0 win against Mill View.

The first half was well fought out, with Rolls defending well against a pacy Mill View attack.

Rolls took the lead on the 60 minute mark when a freekick was only half cleared and Micky Agnew was first to react with a deft touch to Ian Patterson, who made no mistake from 10 yards out.

Rolls kept improving, with a full bench of subs to come on, but the score remained 1-0 for a deserved three points.

Micky Agnew was man of the match.

The Philadelphia were 5-0 winners against Walkergate.

Phili went ahead in the 15th minute when the home left back was pressurised and hit a poor back pass, which Mark Nixon latched onto to steer home.

Five minutes later, Nick Leat picked up a poor clearance from a corner and hammered the ball past the keeper from 25 yards.

It was 3-0 in the 55th minute, when full-back John Rowntree finished well.

The lead was extended in the 68th minute after some neat passing, when Ian Pallas cut in from the wing and thumped the ball home from 25 yards.

The scoring was completed in the 79th minute when Paul Russell played some good football out of defence and after some neat onetwos, he calmly placed his shot to beat the keeper.
