How about this as a place to do work experience!

ECHO READERS RECALLED WORKING AT LAMBTON LION PARK ... INCLUDING BEING LICKED BY A GIRAFFE, GETTING LOCKED IN A SHED WITH A PORCUPINE AND BEING KNOCKED OVER BY A CHARGING ELEPHANT

-

We’re roaring into life once again with more of your memories of Lambton Lion Park.

Last week, we took a look at some recollections of people who visited the attraction when it was open between 1972 and 1980.

Mark Adams said he went there on work experience and it turned out to be a very memorable occasion.

“Strangest job ever was sawing the hind leg off a dead zebra and feeding it to the wolves. True.”

Mark Dembry said: “I did my week’s work experience from school there. Had a great week.”

But then he qualified that statement and added: “If you think being licked in the face by a giraffe and locked in a pitch black shed with a porcupine are great.”

His memories just kept on coming and Mark added: “And nearly being knocked over by a charging elephant when it was chasing a pot-bellied pig.”

Lindsey Cook told us: “Me dad worked there.” David Rutter commented: “Used to deliver late 70s,” while Geri Cunningham said: “I worked there as my work experience.”

The number of people reached through the story on social media continues to climb and is approaching 100,000.

More of you shared your memories of paying a visit, including Sharon Wylie who said: “I remember the aeroplane that you could go into and pretend to fly.”

Elaine Lane “got chased by a baby elephant”, while Sandra Young still has “two little bear ornaments I bought when I was about 8 from the gift shop”.

Lynn Wallace recalled: “I vaguely remember going and being scared of a rhino. But I liked the donkey. I must’ve been about 5 or 6.”

Fiona Davison commented: “We could hear the lions roar from our garden.”

Thanks to everyone who responded.
