FLAMES POSITIVE OF AN ENCOURAGING START
SUNDERLAND START CHAMPIONSHIP NORTH DIVISION TWO CAMPAIGN AWAY AT SEFTON LADIES
Sunderland Flames kickstart their season this Sunday away to Sefton Ladies in Championship North Division Two.
The Wearside ladies will travel south to Liverpool in search for the first five points of the 2018/19 season.
The game will see the Sunderland Flames step out for the first time since April, with four weeks of fitness training and five weeks of rugby pre-season training under their wings.
Captain of the Sunderland Flames, Amber Stonehouse said: “We are excited for the new season to begin and optimistic about the new girls we have coming into the team.
“It is going to be interesting to see how well we all gel together having had the summer break.”
The Flames are putting in their final preparations on the training pitch ahead of the clash.
Stonehouse added: “It will be all about working hard together like we have in training throughout pre-season.
“And hopefully it shall all come together and pay off to secure the full five points on offer.”
Despite a number of players missing from the availability sheet, the Flames are confident in a positive and encouraging start to the season.
Pre-season has seen a number of new players join the side, and with this growth, it is something captain Stonehouse thinks will be key to their season success.
Next weekend Sunder- land host their first home fixture, against last season’s second-place finishers, Birkenhead Panthers.
