CARPETMEN LAY DOWN MARKER IN CUP WIN

Carpets Centre Elite moved into the second round of The Billy Pemberton Memorial Cup after their stunning 3-1 win over the Blue Bell.

Billy Harrison, Darin Brooke and Gav Murton hit the winning goals and the Blue Bell replied through Mark Smith.

Kurt Jenkins finished the game with four goals to his name as he helped Ashbrooke Hendon beat Washington Cherry Tree 6-2 in the second round of the League Cup, sponsored by SpecSavers.

Star man Jimbob Dunn inspired his team to the win courtesy of further efforts from Dacruz and Lewis Armstrong.

The Cherries hit back through a James Pullar brace.

Joe Lincoln, debutant Brad Wilson and player manager Bri Carter all scored for The Stackyard in a 3-3 draw with RCA Grangetown Florists.

However, the Premier League side relied on Robert Hall to notch twice and goal machine Andy Place equalised at the death.

It then went to penalties and Adam McDermott saved crucial spot kicks to send his Stackyard side through.

Washington Sky Lounge’s Joe Young and Rob Grainey edged out the Port of Call 3-1 in a tight encounter.

Grainey scored twice after Young had nodded home, with Port of Call repliying through Wharton.

Ashbrooke Rosedene hammered Grindon Broadway 6-0, but it could have been more but for Paul Guy between the sticks.

Michael Brown’s fourgoal haul started things off and Hope-Hindmarsh then Micky Rippon added further goals. Aaron Clasper done well for Grindon.

Coverdale, Henderson and Burlinson had the Board Inn cruising in the first half, but Conlin and Laing replied for Millview.

However, the visitors had super-sub Luke Loasby, who came off the bench, hitting a devastatin­g brace to make sure of the 5-2 win.

Grange Park toppled Premier League New Town after Adam Drysdale hit a hat-trick and Shaun Conlon volleyed home.

New Town reduced the score when Elliot Salicki struck a penalty home, but Grange Park finished the scoring when Catcheside finished off a good move.

Pennywell Comrades’ captain Craig Chapman saw his side run riot against Penshaw CC and the goals flowed thanks to Waters and Herring, with braces from Josh Dick and David Snowdon.

Ryhope Forresters’ Keiron Davies hit four goals and Matty Johnstone hit the last goal in their victory over Redhouse, who respomnded through Ryan Tench.

Goals from Luke Morrow and John Coomber weren’t enough for Thorney Close Inn against Southwick as the reigning champions hit nine.

Davis, Brown and Ross were among the goals for Southwick.

Silksworth had March and Munday score in each half in a narrow win over Stella Dons, Williamson replied for the hosts.

Lee Cuthbertso­n scored a couple of goals for Teal Farm, before Kershaw and Perry replied for the visitors.

The Farm had further goals from Quinn and Phipps in their 4-2 success.
