Scoreline flattered winners – Gredziak

-

Durham City manager Wayne Gredziak challenged his side to keep working hard after they slipped to another defeat.

A 3-0 defeat at Jarrow left The Citizens second from bottom in Northern League Division Two.

All of the goals came in the second half as a Jonny Wightman brace and a late Glen Hargrave strike eased the hosts to all three points but Gredziak remained positive, despite losing his first game as permanent manager of the club.

Hesaid“Itwasagamefull of chances but we missed ours and Jarrow didn’t.

“It was a disappointing result and in all honesty a 3-0 scoreline flattered Jarrow. The last two goals were scored when we were forced to make changes through injury but this was our best performance to date.

“It will take time for the new players to settle in but we will keep working hard in training to get ourselves out of the position we are in at the moment.”

Chester-le-Street Town remain at the top of the table thanks to their 3-2 win at Tow Law Town.

Jack Oliver put the Cestrians ahead on 18 minutes but they were trailing at half-time as Dan Kirkup and Dale Milburn got the hosts on top.

But a goal from Michael Hepplewhite and a Kirkup own goal helped Colin Wake’s side remain at the top of the table.

Kyra Clarke’s late winner kept Thornaby on Town’s heels as they secured a thrilling 3-2 home win against Thornaby.

Easington Colliery slipped to fifth in the table after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against the division’s basement club Brandon United. David Vincent gave the Colliers a 12th-minute lead but Ben Joyeux’s equaliser just before the half- hour mark gave the visitors an unexpected point.
