WEST END COPE WELL WITH ‘TINY’ 3G PITCH

-

Sunderland West End remain in fourth place in the Wearside League table after their comprehensive win at Darlington Town.

Daley Clarke opened the scoring for West End on 26 minutes and they were two up at half-time thanks to a fine strike from Brad Wilson.

Adam Drysdale made it three on 69 minutes and Barry Turton rounded off a fine performance with a free-kick to make it 4-0 in the closingstages.

“We are delighted,” said West End manager Anthony Nelson.

“It’s a tiny pitch and it’s so compact that it can take some getting used to.

“Once we settled down on the 3G pitch we dominated the game and deserved the win.

“We will be training ahead of Darlington RA on Saturday and I’ll take in a few games in midweek.

“We are back to fullstrength and I know when we are like that it will take a very good side to beat us.”

Silksworth CW coach Michael Curtis urged his side to take the positives from their defeat at Hartlepool FC.

Two goals from Lee Jones and one from Jamie Tumilty gave their side a 3-0 win and condemned Silksworth to their first league defeat since Hartlepool beat them by the same scoreline on Wearside in mid-August.

But Curtis wasn’t too disheartened by the defeat and wants his players to learn from their experience at Grayfields.

He said “We need to use it as a learning curve.

“We hit the post twice, we gave away two goals by making silly errors and we were punished by a very good Hartlepool side.

“We played well and even they would admit that.

“The scoreline doesn’t really do us justice because it doesn’t look good on paper. But we were better than it suggests and we will look to bounce back in midweek against Annfield Plain.”

An 8-0 hammering of Gateshead Leam Rangers helped Wolviston remain at the top of the Wearside League table.

Phil Otele led the way with a hat-trick and Daniel Drazdauskas scored twice as Wolviston made it 12 games unbeaten in the league.

A brace from Aron Burn and a goal apiece for Jack Donaghy and Ryan Bolam helped Hebburn Town Reserves keep up the pressure on Wolviston with a 4-0 win at West Auckland Tunns.

Harton and Westoe CW lie one place behind the Hornets in third after a late goal from Grant Pressling gave them a narrow home win against Annfield Plain.

Scott Watson put the visitors ahead on 12 minutes but Dan Nolan got Harton back on level terms with a 20-yard effort midway through the firsthalf and Pressling won it for David Crumbie’s side with a goal six minutes from fulltime.

Coxhoe Athletic search for a first win of the league campaign after hat-tricks from Ben Graham and Lewis Jolly put Windscale on their way to an 8-1 win at Beechfield Park.

Ben Graham and Lewis Jolly both hit trebles for the Cumbrian outfit and Lawrence Black scored twice in a dominant display at Beechfield Park.

Boldon CA continued their recent improvement as they moved out of the bottom three for the first time this season with a 6-2 win at Darlington RA.

Four goals from former Seaham Red Star front-man Liam McBryde put Sean Butler’s side on their way to a valuable three points and Jack Robertson and John Murray moved Boldon up to 12fth in the table.

Kallum Holbrook continued his impressive goalscoring form with a hat-trick that helped Richmond Town move into the top six of the table with a 4-3 win at Horden CW.
