Schoolgirl Emily inspires Prestige German Cars’ new charity fundraising drive
A family-run South Tyneside business has helped boost the funds of a hospital unit after being inspired into action by a schoolgirl.
Ten-year-old Emily Morgan will live the rest of her life dependent on insulin after being diagnosed with Type One diabetes a few months ago.
Each day, Emily has to undergo injections and day and night testing to monitor the condition - which can be life-threatening without the correct treatment and self management.
Inspired by their daughter’s bravery, Jon and Lorraine Morgan – owners of Prestige GermanCarsbasedinShaftesbury Avenue - launched a fundraising drive for the hospital unit supporting her. Prestige German Cars is an independent run specialist for BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Smart, Skoda and Mini vehicles and provides vehicle owners with a range of services including dealer diagnostics, vehicle servicing, repairs and engine rebuilds. The company has carried out work for ARI Masterserve fleet company for a number of years, who also came on board with the fundraising donating £6,597 from its charity fund. Prestige German Cars had raised £1,800 by taking part in a charity rally and through family, colleagues, suppliers and customers.
Mrs Morgan said: “This charity was chosen as it is close to our hearts as our daughter Emily age 10 was diagnosed with Type1 diabetes.
“There is no cure it is a chronic condition and it requires constant careful self-management and good medical care. Having our nominated charity chosen is fantastic as it will benefit Emily and other local children and their families.” Val Campbell, Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse at South Tyneside District Hospital, said: “We want to say a huge thank you for this fantastic donation and we will make sure that it benefits as many children and young people as possible. We plan to use some of it to organise large group activities which offer educational opportunities to children, young people, carers and parents around the subject of Type 1 diabetes and to update some of the educational resources in our clinic.” For details on Prestige German Cars visit prestigegermancars.co.uk.
