Munday header seals point as Silksworth stay in fifth place

-

Silksworth CW remain in fifth place in the Wearside League table after they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Annfield Plain.

Jamie Price put the visitors ahead at Welfare Park just before half-time but their hosts improved after the break to get on top.

The pressure paid off 10 minutes after the interval when Harry Munday glanced a header into the bottom lefthand corner of the net after rising to meet a fine cross from Brandon Alderson.

Despite creating a number of chances, Silksworth had to settle for a point and their attention now turns to Saturday’s trip to unbeaten Wolviston.

Harton and Westoe CW continued their impressive start to the season with a 5-1 hammering of Gateshead Leam Rangers.

David Crumbie’s side took just six minutes to break the deadlock as Aaron Coulson weaved his way into the Rangers area before coolly rolling the ball home.

Dan Nolan doubled the lead on 21 minutes and Coulson’s second of the night gave Harton a three-goal lead at the interval.

The visitors pulled one back on 76 minutes but late goals from Corey Fenwick and Chris Foster completed the win and kept their side just in behind Wolviston and Hebburn Town Reserves at the top of the table.

Robbie Renwick scored the only goal of the game to give Horden CW a 1-0 win at Darlington RA.

Bishop Auckland became the first side to lose to Newcastle Benfield since the opening day of the Northern League Division One season with a 2-1 defeat on Tyneside.

Sean Ryder got the TwoBlues back on level terms after Paul Brayson put Benfield ahead just after the half-hour mark but it was the hosts that took the points thanks to Jake Orrell’s goal 20 minutes from time.

Sean McRoberts and Lewis Suddick both hit braces as North Shields moved into the Second Round of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup with a 7-0 hammering of Penrith.

Connor Campbell scored twice to help Heaton Stannington inflict a 5-1 hammering on Division Two rivals Ryton and Crawcrook Albion in the same competition.

Guisborough Town needed penalties to see off Redcar Athletic after a late Stuart Browne goal helped the Division Two side secure a 1-1 draw in normal time.
