Gredziak ‘proud’ after first victory

Durham City player-manager Wayne Gredziak was “immensely proud” of his side after their 3-2 win at Billingham Synthonia.

Jamie Haymen’s hattrick gave the Citizens their first win since the openingday of the season and gave Gredziak his first three points as manager of the club.

“I have been saying saying that we were are not a million miles away for a couple of weeks now and the players proved to me and the league that we are going to compete in every game.

“In all honesty, we deserved the win because we battled from the start to finish and I am immensely proud of every one of my players.

“I believe we can push on from here and we can get ourselves moving in the right direction up the league.”

Chester-le-Street Town were knocked off the top of the table after a Liam Jarvie goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at Crook Town.

They are replaced at the top by Thornaby, who were 4-0 winners against West Allotment Celtic.

Billingham Town are in third after their goalless draw at Tow Law Town and Jarrow remain in fourth, despite falling to a 3-1 defeat at Washington.

Issac Gamblin put the Mechanics ahead on 11 minutes, but they were pegged back by John Wightman’s penalty seven minutes into the second-half.

But a debut goal from Callum Smith and a Jak Hanson penalty gave the hosts a much-needed win at Nissan Sports Complex.

Easington Colliery had Liam Cooke and Jack Pounder scoring in their 2-1 win over Esh Winning.

Brandon United finally got a first league win of the campaign as Jack Carr got the only goal against Redcar Athletic.

Heaton Stanningto­n’s Connor Campbell and Lewis Burns both scored in their 5-0 demolition of Northaller­ton Town. Goals from Jeff Smith and Dean Thexton helped Willington secure a 4-1 home win against Bedlington Terriers and Tyler Davis and Scott Jasper got the goals to help Ryton and Crawcrook Albion come from behind to beat Birtley Town.
