-

Leroy Nelson was one of the shining stars on Sunderland ABC’s first show of the season at the Steels club.

The Sunderland boxer took on Redcar’s Kevin Harvey in an outstanding contest.

The talented Nelson looked sharp throughout and took every round with his strong attacking style, hurting the Redcar boy in all three rounds.

After a superb display, Nelson took the best boxer of the night award.

The top of the bill saw Sunderland’s Matty Stewart take on Houghton’s Sol Stalke in another all-action contest.

Stewart, a game senior who has shown he has a big heart, used all his skills to take on the talented Stalke, who used his height and reach to fire home some heavy artillery.

Stewart showed strength and guile throughout and fought back well against the strong attacks from Stalke, who finallyk took a unanimous decision.

The show had started off with new up-and-comers Kye Walker (Sunderland) against Kai Barton (Birtley), and Joel Lichfield (Sunderland) against Charlie Moore (Darlington).

Both contests were skill contests and got the show under way with a bang.

Jake McMahon (Sunderland) against Luke Dunn (Lambton Street) was a cracking bout with both boys giving their all. Jake used his jab well and took the win on his debut.

Sunderland’s Leon Walker took on Boldon’s Brodie Langley and stormed forward throughout. Langley showed some good skills but it was Walker who took a unanimous decision.

Blake Rush (Sunderland) against Alfie Ward (Darlington) was another actionpacked contest. Rush forced the pace and looked the aggressor, taking a unanimous decision from the judges.

Charlie Myers (Sunderland) against Jake Brown (Sunderland East End) was a fine contest. Myers fired shots in from all angles but Brown is a clever mover and put some great combinations together, winning by unanimous decision.

Charlie Lichfield (Sunderland) took all three rounds for a unanimous decision against Spennymoor’s Alex Jansen.

Andrew Lawson (Sunderland) against Dan Jackson (Barnard Castle) got the crowd buzzing an all-action encounter, the Durham boy claiming a majority decision.

Talented light heavyweight Steve Pattison got back to winning ways and after a lengthy lay-off due to an ankle injury.

He looked the part against John Molloy (Vulcan ABC), firing home with some strong and fast combinations to knock the game Molloy off balance.

The Vulcan fighter stood toe-to-toe and never took a backward step, but Pattison was a decisive winner, taking all three rounds.

Haroon Nikai (Sunderland) against Peter Hardman (Brandon) was a tactical bout with Hardman winning on a unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Sunderland’s Jack Atkinson has boxed his way into the national quarter-finals of the development championships.

The hard-hitting 70kg 15-year-old will be looking to go all the way at the finals at the Seaton Carew sports complex on Sunday.
