West End hit eight to smash Tuns

-

Sunderland West End moved to within four points of Wearside League leaders Hebburn Town Reserves with a comprehensive 8-1 win against West Auckland Tunns.

Goals from Mark Catheside and Barry Turton put Anthony Nelson’s side two up inside 20 minutes.

The Tunns pulled a goal back midway through the first-half with a strike from Rhys Porter.

But that was as good as it got for the visitors as West End resumed control of the proceedings as James Cassidy’s strike restored their twogoal advantage.

Quickfire goals from Brad Wilson and Turton made it 5-1 at half-time and effectively ended any chances of the Tunns taking anything from the game.

Substitute Kieron Martin came off the bench to hit a second-half hat-trick and complete a fine night of work from West End.

First-half goals from Kieran Megran and Scott Robson gave Chester-le-Street Town a win at local rivals Birtley Town.

Mat ty Souls by pulsed ago al back early in the second-half but the Hoops couldn’t find an equaliser and the win moves the Cestrians back to the top of the Northern League Division Two table.

Conor Winter and Michael Brown both scored twice to put Willington on their way to a 5-0 win at Esh Winning.

Evann Graham got Willington’s other goal as they moved into Division Two’s

top six.

Northern Ireland’s Nations League worries deepened as Austria’s Marko Arnautovic condemned them to a 1-0 defeat in Vienna.

The West Ham striker scored the only goal in the 71st minute to leave Michael O’Neill’s men without a point from their opening two matches in League B’s Group 3.

With the risk of relegation growing, they now need to win Monday’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo to keep their fate in their own hands.

Scotland Under-21’s faint hopes of qualifying for Euro 2019 were finally extinguished as they slumped to a 3-1 loss to Ukraine in Kiev.

Scot Gemmill’s side needed to win their last two games to keep alive a chance of qualifying out of Group 4 for the play-offs as one of the best placed runners up.

And they got off to the perfect start as Lewis Morgan found the net within 60 seconds of kick-off.

But they can now forget about next year’s finals after the hosts responded with a double from Oleksandr Zubkov and an injury-time effort from Viktor Kovalenko to kill off their ambitions.

Gabriel Jesus and Alex Sandro scored late on in each half as Brazil won 2-0 against Saudi Arabia in a friendly international.

The hosts finished the game with 10 men after goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais was sent off.
