Sky the limit as Washington stay top of the first division

-

Washington Sky Lounge maintained their one-point lead at the top of the Sunderland Sunday League First Division with a 9-2 hammering of The Saltgrass.

Wailes, Brown, Philliskirk and Thompson put the Lounge in control.

Saltgrass responded with two goals but the league leaders re-established total dominance through braces apiece by Young and Leighton.

That result proved important as second-placed Grange Park kept up the pressure on the Lounge with an equally commanding victory at Ashbrooke Hendon FC, winning 6-0.

Shaun Fisk hit a hat-trick, Mark Catcheside added a double and Gary Harding completed the rout.

A double from Stella legend Gav Teasdale was enough for his side to beat a plucky Wearmouth CW side.

And in an 11-goal thriller at Thorney Close Inn, the hosts prevailed 7-4 against Washington Teal Farm. Pattison (2), Jones (2), Steel, Robson and Dan Makin scored for the Inn, Briggs (2) and Moore (2) for Teal Farm.

In the Second Division, the top three all won to maintain status quo in the upper reaches - six points separating the trio but Park View and the Kings Arms neck and neck in second and third.

The Queen Vic beat Washington Athletic 6-5, Park View overcame The Victory Club 2-0 despite Reece Benson’s sending-off and courtesy of Dargue and Peverley goals, and the Kings Arms won 3-2 at The Grange.

Their third win of the season saw goals by Barras (2) and Mather, Atchison and Dodd with The Grange’s reply.

Redhouse FC and The Board Inn drew 2-2, Danny Simpson scoring twice before Trotter and a James Burlinson penalty levelled for The Board.

And at Ryhope FC, the hosts beat Washington New Tavern 5-2.

Sweeney hit a brace, while McDonough, Robertson and Jayden Ellis extended Ryhope’s lead, Roberts and Wallis responding for the Tavern.

Oddies FC stay top of the Third Division thanks to a 9-1 crushing of Grindon Broadway SC that featured a ‘Goal of the season’ con tender by man of-the-match Tony Ganley.

Further goals from Webster (4), Liam Brown, Paul Maw and Callum Richardson added to Grindon’s woes, Brad Anderson with their consolation.

Penshaw CC are second after a 4-0 win over Millfield Free Gardeners. Tom Winter, Snelling, Simpson and Ryan Preistman earned the win and Danny Brown starred for the visitors.

Third-placed Millview won 8-0 at Witherwack, Sean Brook and Jac Fluery with a hat-trick each and Dan hardy scoring a brace.

And a Mark Smith hat-trick eased Washington United to a 3-0 win at Sunderland North, where Wilson shone in goal for United and Michael Jones stood out for the hosts.

Finally, in the Fourth Division, Hall Farm Doxy Lad won 3-1 at home to Washington North Biddick to reaffirm their position at the top of the table.

In another hard-fought win for Hall Farm, Jonny Glenwright scored twice and capped an excellent performance with the man-of-thematch award.

Jack Smyth replied for North Biddick but a further goal from Lancaster sealed the win.

That leaves the Doxy four points ahead of Ashbrooke Rosedene, who have two games in hand following a comprehensive 5-0 win at Velocity.

Ashbrooke were simply too strong for a spritely Velocity side, man-of-the-match Ridley scoring early on in the game, Hope-Hindmarsh adding his nigh-customary double then Etheridge and Melmoe extending the lead.

And fourth-placed Whitburn Panthers maintained a single-point advantage over Washington United, in fifth, with a 3-2 victory courtesy of goals by Malarky, Allman and Wadey, Woodley and Welsh with United’s efforts.
