Gunners hit five to stun champions

-

Arsenal extended their 100 per cent start to the Women’s Super League season with a dominant 5-0 win at London rivals Chelsea.

Chelsea were last season’s champions and were undefeated in their 18 games, but after five games this term, the Blues have one win, three draws and now a first defeat, to the Gunners.

Vivianne Miedema and Jordan Nobbs each scored twice and Kim Little was also on target from the penalty spot as Arsenal claimed a fourth win from four games, scoring 21 times and conceding just three times in the process.

Manchester City continued their unbeaten start with a commanding 7-1 win over West Ham.

Nikita Parris and Georgia Stanway scored a brace apiece, while Caroline Weir, Steph Houghton and Tessa Wullaert also found the net for City. Holland international Esmee de Graaf scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Birmingham recorded a fourth win from their five matches, with a 1-0 win at Bristol City. Aoife Mannion, who had a first-half penalty saved, scored the only goal

Liverpool beat Yeovil 2-1 for their second win of the season. Jess Clarke’s goal four minutes from time proved decisive.

Kirsty Linnett’s opener had earlier been cancelled out by Yeovil’s Annie Heatherson.

Everton remain without a win after a 3-3 draw at home to Brighton, who recorded their first point.

Inessa Kaagman, Chloe Kelly and Gabby George were on target for the Toffees, with Brighton coming from 3-1 down as Ellie Brazil struck twice to earn a draw. Danielle Buet had opened the scoring for Albion.
