Seaham make it too easy for Yarm

-

For the second successive week, Seaham players were overly generous in gifting their opponents the easy ball to run over the line.

Yarm were 12-0 up by the eighth minute, courtesy of two well-taken tries and a conversion.

Seaham struck back in the 16th minute when John Dixon took a lineout and set up a driving maul, which was finished off by Chris Bland.

Yarm secured a bonus point with tries on 18 and 20 minutes, one of them converted, to extend their lead to 19 points.

Glen Hardie cleverly intercepted a loose pass in his own 22 and sprinted the length of the pitch to touch down.

Connor Drinkwater added the extras for 24-12.

Poor tackling and defensive lapses saw a fifth try and a conversion conceded on the half-hour before Adam Larkin fooled the Yarm defence and sent a scoring pass to James Bromley. Connor Drinkwater nailed his second conversion of the day to make it 31-19.

Yarm replied quickly with their sixth try of the half - and a conversion - to quell Seaham’s resistance and have the last say on a high scoring half.

The second half was very much one-way traffic, with Seaham offering little in the way of resistance as Yarm racked up a further five converted tries before the hour-mark to race 7319 ahead.

The hosts were able to salvage a little something from the game in the 62nd minute when Kurt Miller’s touchdown earned them a try bonus point.

Drinkwater’s third conversion of the game took them to 26 points, but they still trailed.

A twelfth Yarm try, three minutes later, took them to 78 points before a clever Drinkwater grubber kick was collected by Adam Larkin five metres out. He drew in two defenders before offloafing to Ian Chapman, who touched down in the corner.

Yarm were to have the final say right at the death when they recorded their 13th try of the game to cap a 85-31 victory in style.
