Late goals sink Pond

-

Billingham Vets sealed a 5-3 win at Willow Pond.

Billingham went ahead but Gary Golightly was then fouled in the box. He took the penalty himself and slotted the ball past the Billingham keeper.

Willow edged ahead when Bulmer floated in a corner for Dodd, whose header was cleared off the line. It fell to striker Michael Grieves who hammered home his shot from close range.

The visitors hit back to level, but Willow took the lead again when Paul Holly crossed a peach of a ball into the box for Dodd to glance his header in at the far post.

Billingham managed to even it up at 3-3 and then added two late goals to complete the win.

The fixture between Hartlepool Vets and The Philadelphia started off with both teams missing chances.

Philly took the lead when Paul Russell floated a free kick into the area and Stan Close came in on the blind side and sidefooted home.

It was 2-0 in the 30th minute when Paul Russell calmly placed the ball in the net.

The second half started with both teams looking for that crucial goal and in the 50th minute, The Philadelphia claimed it when a 40-yard pass found Darren Hutchinson on the right wing. He collected the pass and crisply hit his shot past the home keeper.

Hartlepool finally converted one of their chances, in the 55th minute, when a defensive mix-up gave them their chance.

Hartlepool Catholic Club suffered a heavy defeat at Redcar Town, losing 7-1.

They could point to the fact that they had 18 players unavailable, but the truth is that this was a poor performance.

The hosts went ahead on 30 minutes but Catholic were level soon after. Dave Smith was fouled five yards outside the area and Nipper McNeany stroked the free kick low around the wall and just inside the post.

Right on half-time though Redcar broke away from a Catholic corner to regain the lead. They went further in front straight after the break, and then it went from bad to worse for Catholic as they conceded four more times.
