SUNDERLAND RFC CHAIRMAN CONFIDENT HIS TEAM CAN CONTINUE WINNING STREAK AGAINST REDCAR

Sunderland RFC are aiming to secure five points as they prepare to face Redcar tomorrow (kick off 2.15pm).

The first XV, who returned to winning ways against Gosforth last week, are keen to continue their form against a Redcar side, who have taken a dip in form this season.

With hooker Pete Harrison unavailabl­e, the coaches are weighing up their options, while also covering for injuries to Harry Price and Dean Edmundson.

Player coach Martin Watt may be called into action following his man-of-thematch performanc­e last weekend, that’s if Ashbrooke need to reshuffle their pack.

Chairman Paul Geehan said ahead of the game: “We are looking for five points from this match as our opponents, Redcar, are struggling for numbers.

“We are putting out one of our youngest backline yet on Saturday and we are just trying people out in different positions at the moment to see what the possibilit­ies are.”

After their 57-15 cup loss to Bishop Auckland, Sunderland Ladies host Didsbury Toc H at Ashbrooke on Sunday (kick off 1pm.)

Geehan added: “Numbers are really good for training and we are hoping to bounce back in this game.”

Meanwhile, Sunderland RFC Under-10s played four matches at the Newcastle Falcons’ Kingston Park festival.

The Sunderland youngster enjoyed a positive days of results after winning two of their matches against Percy Park (4-3) and Ryton (4-1).

They played out a 3-3 draw with Novocastri­ans, whilst losing a very tight match in their final match, 3-2 against a very good Durham City side.

Stand out players of the day were Daniel Cassap and Sonny Hopper, who led the way scoring a number of tries in all four matches.
