LEE GAUNT AND JAMES WOOD LEAD THE WAY IN CONVINCING DURHAM FA SUNDAY CUP VICTORY

Houghton Town produced the team performanc­e of the day in the first round of the Durham FA Sunday Cup, winning 13-0 against Thornley Harry’s Bar

Lee Gaunt and James Wood both scored four apiece, with further goals coming from Rob Thompson, Kyle Davis, Joe Robinson, Craig Hennis and Sam Steel.

Stockton Premier League Side Norton came out on top against Coxhoe Red Lion, winning 3-1.

However, it was Jim Appleby who put Coxhoe ahead from the penalty spot.

Norton rallied and scored three second half goals to progress into the next round.

DurhamCoun­tyhadgoals coming from Jack Carr (2), Ryan Huntley, Ian Parkin and Luke Kerry in their victory over West Auckland Tunns.

Sedgefield St Edmunds won the penalty shootout 3-2 against South Shields The Derby after the game ended 3-3.

An all Durham Sunday League game saw Washington Westwood entertain Chilton WMC, with the tie level at 2-2 after 90 minutes. However, Chilton won 4-3 on penalties.

Sunderland RCA Grangetown Florists edged out Langley Park FC 4-3.

Ferryhill Dynamoes won 3-2 at Pelton RAOB, while Newton Aycliffe Iron Horse beat Leam Lane WMC 3-1.

Ferryhill Celtic won 4-1 at Sunderland Stackyard, while Burnside WMC eased to a 5-2 win over Easington Lane WMC.

The draw for the second round with Durham Sunday League clubs is as follows (November 25, (KO 10.30am): Sunderland Stella Dons v Houghton Town, Consett Top Club v Ferryhill Celtic, Seaham Marlboroug­h v Burnside WMC, Murton Colliery v Durham County, Norton George and Dragon v Sedgefield St Edmunds, Newton Aycliffe Iron Horse v Darlington Albion, Peterlee Catholic Club v Chester le Street Garden Farm, Ferryhill Dynamoes v Chilton & Windleston­e.

In the fourth round of the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Trophy, Sherburn Village won 7-0 against Ferryhill Community Hub, Ushaw Moor Cricket Club lost 5-1 to Chester-le-Street Whitehills.

In the third round of the Workwear Express Durham League Cup, Lumley came out on top in a penalty shootout against Pease’s West.

In the JD Taxis Challenge Cup, third round, Newton Aycliffe Navy Club defeated Lambton Lions 5-2, with Brandon’s Sports going down 1-0 at Spennymoor Volitger.

In the Swinburn Maddison Solicitors Premier League, Ouston Cherry Tree collected their first points of the season with a comfortabl­e 6-1 win away at Houghton Wild Boar.

In Division One: Chester-le-Street Hilda Park entertaine­d leaders Sacriston WMC, but fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat.

In Division Two, Sherburn Village WMC strolled to a 5-0 victory at Bede Lodge Social.

It was a day to forget for Belmont Club after they crashed to a 6-0 home defeat at the hands of Lumley Snooker Club.

Sedgefield Corner House narrowly lost 4-3 against Framwellga­te Moor WMC.

In Division Three, Bowburn edged out Bishop Middleham 5-4.

A crazy first half saw Bishop take a two-goal lead inside the first five minutes only for Bowburn equalise.

Goals continued and at half time the score stood at 4-4.

Bowburn then dominated the second Half and Alfie Pearn scored the winning goal late on.

Goals from Adam Watson (2), Keegan Spencer, Kenny Wilks, Luke Turnbull and Ryan Huntley (2) gave Durham Rangers a 7-0 home win over Witton Gilbert WMC.

In another high-scoring game, Hetton New Inn AFC beat Quarringto­n Hill WMC 9-0.

Hetton Social RAR entertaine­d Pelton Crown In a very competitiv­e game that should have been sown up by Hetton in first 20 minutes.

Pelton ran out 3-0 winners, thanks to goals from Andrew Illingwort­h and Steven Haswell (2).

Houghton Chilton Lodge welcomed Chester Waldridge and it was Waldridge who had several easy chances early on, before Greg Short opened the scoring.

Houghton responded in the second half and scored two goals early on, but Dan Glendinnin­g equalised for Waldridge.

However, Waldridge captain Jake Robinson got a late winner for a 3-2 victory.
