Park make smooth progress in Durham County Cup clash

Holders Dawdon Welfare Park and runners-up Peterlee Catholic Club made smooth progress in the Durham County Sunday Cup, ensuring strong Chilla Pizza Peterlee and District Sunday League representa­tion in the second round.

Dawdon beat Sunderland Railway 8-0 courtesy of a Robbie Bird hat-trick, a Callum Munro brace plus efforts from Marc Ruddock and substitute­s Jordan Thompson and Wes Smith.

Not to be outshone, the Catholic Club also won 8-0, against Stockton RSD, thanks to two apiece from Gary Shaw and Jack Pounder and further goals by Liam and Paul Wintrip, Dave Taylor and Callum Sinclair.

Horden DLI progressed with a 5-1 defeat of Hartlepool AFC Supporters, Jamie Yorke, Stuart Softley, Robert Renwick and substitute­s Peter Crawford and Stephen Hockaday on target.

Ryan Pinder’s goal was enough to hand Murton Colliery victory over Easington Colliery Club Mechanics.

Despite scoring five, Peterlee Acre Rigg were eliminated in a 13-goal thriller against Chester-Le-Street Garden Farm.

Peterlee Helford United lost 7-2 to Darlington Albion while Thornley Harry’s Bar were thrashed 11-0 by Houghton Town FC.

Shotton Comrades were beaten 4-1 by Whickham Coachman, Ian Watson on target, while Easington Lane WMC lost 5-2 to Burnside WMC, Jai Young and Daryl Robinson with the lane’s goals.

And, finally in the County Cup, Seaham Marlboroug­h were held to a 1-1 draw - Niall Cowell with their goal - by Eaglesclif­fe Parkwood, but lost on penalties.

In the First Division League Cup, Wingate Grange reached the second round with a 3-1 win (8-4 on aggregate) over Hetton Lyons FC, Simon Hall and Jonathan Lee on target with Elliott Hutchinson replying for the Lyons.

In the Second Division League Cup, Easington Victory and Haswell Oddfellows Arms drew their first-leg 3-3 with a brace from Brian Smith and a Matthew Hampton effort for the Vic, Daniel Purvis, Anthony Rookes and Brandon Collin scoring for Oddfellows.

Despite losing their second-leg 2-1 to Sherburn United, Seaham Parkside won 4-3 on aggregate thanks to Jack Deighton. Barry Appleton and Jamie Henderson got Sherburn’s goals.

Easington Colliery Club Mechanics made progress in the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup, beating South Hetton Cricket Club 4-2 with goals from Gary Spalding, Thomas Bott, Anthony Dobell and Nathan Graham. Michael Kennedy replied.

In the league, there were wins for Easington Southside and Seaham The Knack, while Wingate Howden and New Seaham Westlea drew 1-1.
