PENSHAW IN THE MOOD WITH CONVINCING WIN
Penshaw Catholic maintained their position in the top three with a comfortable 3-0 away win against a well-organised Darlington side, who will cause other teams problems as the season progresses.
Goals came from Brett Cummings, Stuart ‘Archie’ Archbold and leading scorer Chris Moody, following on from his excellent hat-trick at Whitley Bay the week before.
Man-of-the-match for Penshaw was captain Damian Maw, who produced a fine performance battling through the whole game after suffering a bad laceration to his knee early in the first half.
Penshaw host newlypromoted Middlesbrough at Herrington Park tomorrow (10.30am).

The first 15 minutes was even but Washington took control of the game with three goals in the next 15 minutes, with Steve Burns picking up two and Chris Dawson getting the other.
For the second half, Washington made a number of changes and Neil Johnson took the lead to 4-0.

A very exciting game between Grindon and Sherburn Village ended all square at 3-3.
In the first half hour, Grindon rarely got out of their half as it was one-way traffic by Sherburn.
Two bad mistakes by Grindon’s defence were punished by Faizel Kirk and Phillip Lawson in the 20th and 27th minutes.
In the last 10 minutes of the first half, Grindon seemed to settle down and a minute into the second half Paul Griffiths pulled one back.
One minute later, a bad back pass by a Grindon defender allowed Faizel Kirk to score again - making it 3-1 to Sherburn.
Substitutions by the Grindon manager put life into the team and they never looked back.
It was all one way in the second half. On the hour, Griffiths scored again to make it 3-2 and a minute later Neal Mcgorrigan equalised.
Grindon slightly shaded the game and at the end both teams had chances to win it. Ref Ken Short had a great game.
The Philadelphia started brightly against visitors Redcar Old Boys and scored in the third minute when Nick Leat latched onto a defensive error and worked his way past the last defender to shoot home.
Redcar cracked again in the 10th minute, when Mark Nixon lashed a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Five minutes later it was three. Paul Russell made a 35-yard defence-splitting pass for Darren Hutchinson to score with a first-time shot.
Redcar pulled a goal back in the 32nd minute and scored another the 55th minute to make it interesting.
The visitors had a glorious chance to equalise but couldn’t finish. The Phili went on the attack and won a penalty for a foul on Mark Nixon. Paul Russell gave the keeper no chance.
