Seaham Red Star coach Jon McDonald believes his side deserved more from their home draw against fellow strugglers Whickham.

Red Star were a goal behind at half-time after Michael Chilton’s opener had been cancelled out by goals from Whickham duo Dan Lowther and Andrew Bulford.

But the hosts roared back after the interval and looked set to secure a vital three points thanks to goals from Dan Wilson and defender Darryll Donnelly.

However, Lowther’s second of the day ensured that the points were shared and that left McDonald frustrated with the result.

He said “We created enough chances to win the game.

“In the last five minutes we had two great chances to take all three points, but their keeper has made two great saves.

“The promising sign is that we are creating lots of chances, but we need to stop leaking goals.

“It’s two games unbeaten, so hopefully it’s a bit of a springboard, but we have a tough game at Stockton Town next week.”

Ryhope CW were made to battle to a 1-1 draw in their home game against Newton Aycliffe.

A late goal from substitute Carl Jones helped Gary Pearson’s side secure a point after Ben Wood had put the visitors ahead in the first five minutes of the game.

Consett extended their lead at the top of Division One to eight points as two goals from midfielder Daniel Craggs put them on their way to a 2-1 win at Guisborough Town.

Bishop Auckland lie in second-place after braces from Callum Patton and Chris Winn and a goal from Shaun Ryder helped them to a 5-0 win at basement club Penrith.

And North Shields took the North Tyneside derby spoils against Whitley Bay thanks to goals from Callum Johnston and Bobby Taylor.

Washington moved up to eleventh place in the Division Two table with a 3-2 win at struggling Brandon United.

The Mechanics raced into a two-goal lead with goals from Kris Goss and Jak Hanson, but the hosts came roaring back and the scores were level at half-time as Jordan Lee and Jack Carr found the target for Brandon.

The two sides looked set to share the points until Craig Hennis’ injury-time penalty helped the visitors to a hard-earned win, but manager Jason Jones was less than satisfied with his side’s performance. “It’s another win, but the performance left a lot to be desired,” he explained. “We were sloppy in possession and even sloppier out of it. “On the whole I’ll take the three points and it’s the first time this season that we have won two games on the bounce.” Billingham Town continue to sit at the top of the table after Luke Hogan and Craig Hutchinson both scored twice in their 4-2 win at Easington Colliery. The Colliers threatened to make a comeback after half-time with goals from Connor Short and Liam Cooke, but Town’s first-half display had already done enough to secure the points.

Goals from Joe Hailes and Jack Oliver kept Chester-le-Street Town in second place after their 2-1 win against Redcar Athletic.

Northallerton Town were 3-2 home winners against Birtley Town thanks to goals from Kerry Hedley, Nicky Martin and Chris Emms.

Kurtis Howes and Paul Roddam were on target as Thornaby eased to all three points against Crook Town.

Matthew Moffat’s brace gave Willington a 2-0 home win against West Allotment Celtic and Connor Campbell scored twice as Heaton Stannington continued their fine form with a win by the odd goal in five against Tow Law Town.
