Martial recalled to France squad

-

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been recalled to the France squad for the Nations League match against Holland and friendly with Uruguay.

Martial has scored in four successive Premier League matches for United, helping Jose Mourinho’s side rediscover some consistent form.

Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps feels the 22-year-old deserves another call-up for the world champions.

“He has incredible potential, but does not always show it regularly,” the France coach said.

“What he is doing in Manchester now is closer to what he is able to do.

“He is still a young player, but one who, I hope, is seeing the importance he has taken in Manchester in recent weeks.

“It depends only on him, he can develop a lot more, he has to do it, and has to change a lot of things to get regular performances through a whole season, or even several seasons.”

France can secure top spot in Nations League Group A and qualification for the finals when they tackle Holland in Rotterdam on November 16.

Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti remains sidelined by injury, but Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte misses out, as does Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Everton’s Lucas Digne, City defender Benjamin Mendy and Mamadou Sakho of Crystal Palace are also included, along with Chelsea duo N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud as well as United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Everton have been fined £500,000 and banned from signing some academy players for two years after admitting offering inducements to players and their families.

The Premier League has handed out the sanctions, which prevent the club from snapping up young players who have been registered with another top flight or EFL club in the previous 18 months, after the Toffees launched an internal investigation when presented with an allegation of wrongdoing.
