Durham City begin search for a new manager

-

Durham City are looking for their third manager of the season after Wayne Gredziak resigned in the aftermath of their 2-0 defeat at Brandon United.

The result leaves the Citizens three points adrift at the bottom of the Division Two table after winning just two of their league games this season.

Gredziak was appointed as City manager in mid-September after Mikey Weston left the club, but went on to win just one game in his 11 games in charge.

A club statement was released within hours of the fulltime whistle and confirmed his departure from the club.

It read “Durham City AFC have accepted the resignation of First Team Manager Wayne Gredziak following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Brandon.

“The club would like thank Wayne for his hard work both on and off the field and are hoping to appoint a new manager to try to take the club forward.”

Second-half goals from Jordan Lee and Niall Fingleton gave Brandon a priceless three points and moved them to within five points of escaping the bottom two of the table.

Chester-le-Street Town remain in third despite behind held to a 3-3 draw by Jarrow FC.

The visitors took a 2-1 lead into half-time as goals from Jonathan Wightman and Ross Toward came either side of a strike from Alex Walker.

Wightman extended the lead three minutes after halftime but his side had to settle for a point after Josh King and Connor Lyon helped the Cestrians battle back to claim a draw.

Washington’s recent upturn in form came to an unexpected end as Nick Marley and Reece Brown found the net in Esh Winning’s 2-0 win at Nissan Sports Complex.

Thornaby moved to within two points of leaders Billingham Town with a win against Easington Colliery.

Liam Cooke put the Colliers in front at the interval with two first-half goals after Dan Chapman had put Thornaby in front on 11 minutes.

Kyran Clark restored parity five minutes after half-time and two goals in ten minutes from Chapman helped him complete a hat-trick and give his side all three points.

Aaron Ramsbottom’s injury-time goal earned Northallerton Town a 1-0 home win against Billingham Synthonia.
