Clinical Pennywell Comrades produce a Stella performanc­e

Pennywell Comrades soared back to the top of the First Division with a convincing 7-0 win over The Stella.

Comrades’ goals came from Goodey, Greener and Taylor, with both Davis Snowdon and Matty Scullion scoring two apiece.

Herrington were too good for Thorney Close Inn as they overturned an early 1-0 deficit to win 4-2.

Dan Makin fired Thorney into an early lead, only for Whitcombe,MunroandHe­rron (2) goals to the away team into a commanding lead.

Micky Pattison came off the bench to grab a typical goal for Thorney before the final whistle.

The Stackyard edged to a 2-1 victory over Washington Sky Lounge.

A Jamie Dixon brace earned the Washington Teal Farm a point against Grange Park.

Fisk and Salam hit the net for Grange, but late in the game Fisk saw red and Teal Farm hit back to rescue a point.

The impressive Jonny Atkinson ran the show for Wearmouth and scored two goals to set his side up for a welcomed win over Ashbrooke Hendon.

Wearmouth rounded off the scoring through Paul Cromack.

In the Second Division, Middlemas and Longstaff both scored two apiece as Washington Athletic saw off the threat of Park View, winning 7-4.

The home team responded with goals from Benson, Southern and Sam Robinson (2).

However, Athletic completed the scoring through Coates, Sinclair and Cooper.

Ryhope CW earned plaudits in their local derby with their Ryhope counterpar­ts.

The visitors finished off their hosts with a 6-2 win, thanks to Matty Jones hitting a hat-trick, with further goals coming from Harrison, Minchinson and Lawrence.

Cam Old scored a couple of goals for the hosts.

Steven Trotter inspired his Board Inn side to another league win to see them move joint top of the league.

They beat the Victory Club 4-3 with goals from Mould, Trotter, Cummings and Henderson.

The Victory Club saw Callum Head (2) and James Smiles hit the net.

Washington New Tavern’s deadly duo Andy McIntyre and Jonny Roberts were both on target to put the Grange to the sword in a 2-1 win.

Captain Jamie Hounslow found the net for The Grange.

In the Premier Division, RCA Grangetown Florists relied heavily on their keeper Andreas Kokoska as his star performanc­ekeptNewTo­wn at bay.

Neither team could break the deadlock, with the home team had Kieron Russell stand out in the heart of their defence.

Ryhope Forresters claimed an easy three points after defeating Sunderland Railway Club 4-1.

Forresters’ Alan Laverick, Kieran Davies and a double from Danny Armstrong saw off basement boys.

Southwick remain the only team with a 100% record as they chalked up their fifth win over the impressive Redhouse Last Orders.

Nine goals were shared in this end-to-end game, with Stewart, Tench and Morse finding the net for Redhouse.

However, goals from Davis, Fairley (2), Devlin (2) and Keiron Martin cancelled out Redhouse to give Southwick the win.

The brilliant Hylton Castle TC Plastics side were too strong for the Stella Dons as they eased to a 4-0 win.

Adam Drysdale hit a hattrick, followed by a strike by Callum Hope.

The win sees Hylton move into second place in the league.

The Queen Vic defeated last season’s Billy Pemberton Memorial Cup holders Kings Arms 3-1, in their second round clash.

Muir, Dickens and Glenn Hargreave earned the win to see Queen into the next round. Dixon hit a late consolatio­n goal for the Kingsmen.

A single Luke Richardson strike was enough for The Lansdowne to dump the Port of Call out of the Total Sport Challenge Trophy.
