Kids come unstuck in Toffees loss

-

Sunderland U-18s were no match for Group leaders Everton, losing 4-0 in the F.A. Premier Youth league game at the Academy on Saturday

They finished the game well beaten but actually could have opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Sonny Best took a set-piece from which Harry Ord headed in but the effort was disallowed for offside.

Everton promptly went straight up the field and scored when impressive big striker Ellis Simms cut inside and slotted home past Adam Cameron in the Sunderland goal.

On 32 minutes, the lead was doubled when Bobby Carroll got down the right and crossed for Sims to score his brace from four yards.

Two minutes later, the Toffees gleefully accepted a third when possession was given away by the Wearsiders at the edge of the box and Kieron Phillips helped himself to an easy goal.

It was still three nil at the break but the killer fourth goal was scored only two minutes after the re-start when Phillips notched his second after Simms had headed on.

For the rest of the game, Everton were largely in control but Conner Slack and Ryan Leonard were unable to take chances late on to grab a consolation goal.

Sunderland coach Paul Bryson said: “It was a decisive win for Everton but we will have a stronger side for next Saturday’s FA Youth Cup game at Goodison Park.”
