Sunderland really do have the greatest fans

- Frankie Francis

Sunderland will get the pleasure of playing of playing Walsall again on Tuesday week as they were held yet again to a score draw, in the FA Cup on this occasion.

Ross put out a strong team which included the vindicated Max Power returning to the ground where he was wrongly sent off at only a week before.

December will now have five home games for the Wearsiders in an already busy schedule which I’m sure both clubs could have done without.

It was great to see Aiden Mcgeady score once again to take him to six goals this season, he came close to grabbing another late on but the effort was well parried by Walsall keeper Roberts.

Mcgeady is a real treat to watch at the moment and for the first time in a long time he looks to be enjoying playing football as much as we enjoy watching him.

The club are trying a new idea out for the Accrington game this coming weekend, offering fans the opportunity to watch the the game via a beamback screening at the Stadium of Light.

400 tickets have already been sold for the event, so the club have opened the Black Cats Bar as well as Quinns Sports Bar for the event.

Supporters will enjoy pre-match and half-time entertainment from non other than your favourite podcasting gang Wise Men Say, plus ex-players in conversation.

Tickets are priced at £10 and include a bottle of beer plus pie and peas. Doors open at 12 noon, the talk-in starts at 2pm.

This week it emerged on Twitter that a fan by the name of Simon Baty got in the festive spirit nice and early and has started a kind new trend of fans buying tickets for other fans who may not be in a position to buy a ticket for Sunderlands Boxing Day fixture against Bradford.

Recently, Charlie Methven set the Sunderland faithful a challenge of hitting 40,000 ticket sales for that game, a figure that would trigger the re-opening of the Premier Concourse and set a new post war third tier football attendance record.

On Twitter, Simon Baty tweeted club owner Stewart Donald with ‘Is there a way I could give the gift of football by buying an adult and two kids tickets for Boxing Day that can be given via the Foundation Of Light to the right people?

Might make Charlie happy with 40k target’ Donald quickly positively responded to Simon Baty’s tweet enlisting the help of club SLO Chris Waters who said demand had been high for this giving initiate and all interested should contact him via email Chris.Waters@safc. com if any supporters would like to join in the gesture with more details on safc.com.

Later, Donald took to Twitter to thank fans for this ‘simply the greatest set of supporters. This is absolutely the kind of club we want’.

The Wise Men Say podcast is available from every Monday, with SAFC debate from a variety of guests and postmatch reaction from Jack Ross. You can stream it direct from wisemensay.co.uk or subscribe to it on iTunes
