Bradley’s legacy is growing...

- By Richard Ord

It’s the seaside town that brought much happiness into the lives of Bradley Lowery and his family ... now it’s set to do the same for many more.

Scarborough was the favourite holiday destination of the popular youngster who sadly died at just six years old.

As such, it was the first choice of the Bradley Lowery Foundation, set up in the Blackhall youngster’s memory, to build a holiday home for ill youngsters.

The support the charity has had since Bradley lost his battle with cancer in 2017 has been fantastic.

He was the little boy who captured the heart of the nation and, in particular, that of football fans with his mascot appearances for Sunderland.

But, despite the great support, it’s important as much of the money raised is ploughed back into helping others like Bradley.

So to hear that Scarborough Council is to gift a parcel of land to the Foundation is fantastic news for this group.

The authority’s cabinet will meet on Tuesday next week to grant the long lease of land to the south of Scalby Manor at “nil value” to the foundation.

That means the £15,000 it would have cost to buy that patch of land will be waived.

It’s a lovely gesture, particularly as it was when the family were on a trip to the seaside town that they came up with the holiday home idea.

Bradley’s mum Gemma said: “He had an amazing time and we made so many beautiful memories there, so it is a very special place to us.”

Thanks to the council generosity, more beautiful memories can now be made for many more youngsters in need.

Bradley’s wonderful legacy lives on ...
