Slow down as these are the very best days of your life

-

‘Woah, woah, woah!’

Sunday afternoons with my granda. I can see the cowboy trying to slow the frantic horse as the trail disappears over the cliff edge. Why’s it in my head? ‘Woah, woah, woah!’ It is December! In fact, it is passing behind in the dust. It’s as if I whip the horse again at the beginning of each year and the faster it gallops. ‘Woah, woah, woah!’ Christmas! What happened to Advent?

That blur whooshing by as if we fix our eyes on the finishing post of December 25.

‘Ah, worry not, It’s for counting down anyway right?’ Advent? Life? Woah, woah, woah! No! Despite how it feels and how we might be riding it.

Pull back on those reigns, slow down enough to hear, to see the Advent scenery, the truths of life that are passing by.

God came down, as Jesus, to ride himself in this world and make it possible for us to choose to take a different trail.

Jesus will come again and take the reigns and bring this ride to a stop regardless of which trail we choose.

Jesus will ride with us now if we slow ourselves down and ask him to hop on and take us on the trail he’s laid out for us. Can’t see it? Then Stop! This race to Christmas, this gallop through life to that cliff edge.

Take the blinkers off, slow down and have a look.

There’s never been a better time.
