As they confidently look down the lens of Scott Spock’s camera for these striking shots, you’d never know that teenagers Rachel Crago and Ethan Temple had never modelled before.

But the two winners of our Face of 2018 modelling competition proved they had what it takes to cut it in the fashion industry at our winners’ shoot.

Our team of fashion and beauty experts pulled out all the stops to stage this glamorous shoot at new venue The Palm in Hylton Riverside, which formed part of our winners’ prize.

Earlier this year we teamed up with experts from across the region to find one girl and one boy with a natural, quirky look to take home our Face of 2018 crowns and the team say they were delighted with how the winning pair performed at their first ever shoot.

Teasing their tresses was celebrity hairdresser Neville Ramsay and his assistant Max Thomas while make-up artist Amanda Bell worked her magic with her cosmetics.

They posed for photos by Scott Spock Photography while modelling clothes provided by Topshop and Topman at the Bridges.

Neville, who’s styled hair for the likes of Jodie Kidd, Sting and editor-in-chief of American Vogue Anna Wintour, said: “Rachel and Ethan have been so professional. This is the first time in front of the camera for both of them, but they’ve shown the perfect attitude. It’s not just about posing for photos, there’s been a big team for them to work with today, with hair, styling and make-up, which can be quite intimidating but they’ve never faulted and have been really flexible with what they’ve been asked to do. I think they have a good chance of being signed with an agency in the future. Rachel has this really beautiful, natural look that would work really well in a make-up campaign, while Ethan has this really edgyquirky look, which is very editorial.”

As well as a portfolio from the winners’ shoot, Rachel, 16, from Hall Farm, and Ethan, 19, from Silksworth, have won hair products from Milkshake and hair styling from Neville; a make-up session with Amanda; a £100 gift card each from the Bridges and a consultation with Terry Savalas of Savalas Models.

Amanda, who’s worked on various fashion shows, including London Fashion Week, said: “They completely fulfilled the brief of finding people with a natural and individual look. I can’t believe

how well both of them have done today.”

Korinne from Scott Spock Photography said: “They’ve really trusted the team who’s transformed them for the shoot. They look amazing and the images are phenomenal,”

Samantha Czwordon-Auld, marketing manager from the Bridges said: “I’m so happy for Rachel and Ethan, they’re such deserving winners. They both have such great identities. I knew Neville would do his trademark big ‘80s curls, so I needed statement clothes to match the statement hair, and also outfits that worked with the strong décor at The Palm.”

Ethan, who is studying a Btec in public services at Sunderland College, said: “This was a brand new experience for me. I will 100 per cent take something from today. It’s given me more confidence to pursue this in the future, and given me so much insight into the industry.”

Rachel, who is studying travel and tourism at Sunderland College, said: “I’ve never done anything like this before. It felt weird at first having all these people focused on me, but then I got used to it and started to feel more relaxed and confident. My mam suggested I entered so I gave it a go, but I never thought I’d get this far. It’s been amazing.”
