Lacazette fires Gunners to narrow victory

-

Laurent Koscielny played for the first time since May as Arsenal completed their nearperfect Europa League group stage with an easy win over Qarabag.

Alexandre Lacazette scored the only goal of a tame match with a slick 16thminute winner from Mesut Ozil’s pass.

After the break, Eddie Nketiah had a headed goal ruled out for offside.

And in the 89th-minute, 17-year-old winger Bukayo Saka missed a chance to become Arsenal’s youngest goalscorer in Europe as he smashed a finish into the face of Qarabag goalkeeper Vagner.

Koscielny, 33, ruptured his Achilles in last season’s semifinals defeat by Atletico Madrid.

He had very little work to do against Qarabag, who only went close when Donald Guerrier headed over, before being replaced in the 72nd minute.

A below-par Celtic scraped into the last 32 of the Europa League as Rosenborg’s shock draw in Leipzig sent the Scottish champions through.

With Celtic needing a point unless Leipzig failed to win in Germany, Tore Reginiussen’s dramatic equaliser four minutes from time spared the blushes of Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Moanes Dabbur and a Frederik Gulbrandsen strike following a Craig Gordon howler had the Austrians 2-0 up.

Olivier Ntcham pulled a goal back at the death, but it was Reginiussen’s late strike that would prove pivotal.

Chelsea lost striker Alvaro Morata to a knee injury as they drew 2-2 with MOL Vidi in a Europa League Group L dead rubber.

Willian opened the scoring with a free-kick before Chelsea teenager Ethan Ampadu headed into his own net.

Loic Nego put Vidi ahead with a fantastic volley, but Olivier Giroud scored a stunning free-kick equaliser.

Rangers have failed to reach the last 32 of the Europa League after Dejan Ljubicic’s late winner gave Rapid Vienna victory in Austria.
