Bennett hits five as Wingate Howden enjoy a perfect ten

Wingate Howden strengthen­ed their position at the top of the Chilla Pizza Peterlee & District Sunday League Second Division with an emphatic 10-2 win against struggling East Durham FC.

Five of their goals came from Jamie Bennett, Dave Cummings scored a hat-trick and further efforts followed from Martin Mason and Harry Winwood.

Lee Cudlip and Ben Orchard netted for the East Durham outfit.

Goals from Graeme Ashcroft and Alan Smith were not enough to give Peterlee Acre Rigg Social all three points when they were held in a 2-2 draw against Haswell Oddfellows Arms.

Oddfellows’ reply came from Chris Kilgour and substitute Andrew Armstrong.

A five-goal thriller saw Thornley Harry’s Bar come out on top against Seaham Parkside, Harry’s winning 3-2 with a hat-trick from Craig Deighton and Matthew Mustard notching a brace for Parkside. A hat-trick from Andrew Elliott and an effort from Matthew Griffiths saw Sherburn United defeat New Seaham Westlea 4-2, Simon Jacobs and Adam Bell in reply.

In the First Division, two goals apiece from Simon Hall and Michael Lee along with a strike from Adam Benton paved the way for Wingate Grange to win an eight-goal encounter 5-3 against Easington Southside, whose reply came from a Martin Dunn brace and a goal from Kieran Purvis.

South Hetton Cricket Club had Liam Houghton and Brandon Cook to thank when they both bagged hat-tricks in their 10-0 romp against Hetton Lyons FC.

Mark Hartley, Alan Curl, Michael Kennedy and Ross Laundon all also found the target.

Peterlee Hearts and Seaham The Knack finished allsquare at 2-2 with Michael Coates and Jared Jones on target for the Hearts while Michael Charlton and Michael Wilson netted for The Knack.

In the Premier Division, Dawdon Welfare Park extended their lead at the top of the table when they enjoyed a comfortabl­e 4-1 win over Seaham Marlboroug­h.

Callum Munro bagged a brace, adding to efforts from Marc Ruddock and substitute Kyle Bell.

Lewis Wilkinson replied for the Marlboroug­h.

A strike from Scott Henderson proved to be enough when Easington Lane WMC took all three points in a 1-0 against Murton Colliery FC.

And in the Easington derby clash, the CIU - with goals from Adrian Sanders and Liam Adamson - defeated their local rivals Easington Colliery Club
