Grief eased by kindness

-

I have lived in Chester Road since 1961, my home is among many shops.

Many changes have taken place over the years.

There are many Asian families living and working hard to keep our area vibrant and inviting to shoppers.

I have many Asian acquaintances now and whilst out shopping I’m often given assistance carrying my bags to my front door. I always give a cheery good morning to anyone out and about.

For me this all changed on May 18 this year, I lost my beloved daughter, she died of pancreatic cancer.

So sad, many, many tears, grieving day in and day out.

My intention was definitely to cancel Christmas.

On Thursday last week were was a knock on my door. I was apprehensive as it was dark and unsure about unlocking my door.

I did, what a surprise, there was a little Bangladeshi boy, eight years of age, an Iranian little girl, 10 years of age, and a Pakistani little boy, 10 years of age. Their parents were standing outside waiting for them and smiling, altogether the three children offered me cards and gifts saying for you ‘Grandma, Happy Christmas’.

My grieving is over, this genuine act of kindness from the Asian community has uplifted me.

Christmas cards, tree decorations, fervently writing cards to post – Christmas is on my agenda again in my life. Dot
