“If I am a player, these are the moments that make it all worthwhile. It is a great thing to have at my disposal to try and either keep players or attract them.”

Ross hailed the fans who roared their side on to victory and has urged his players to revel in the experience.

“It is remarkable, it is a privilege to manage this club,” he said. “Whatever I do in my management career, very seldom will I have what I have here, if at all. rockI have achieved nothing as a manager at Sunderland, if anything, all it ever does is strengthen your resolve to bring success to the club. It is an outstanding fanbase. “I stressed that to the players, enjoy the feeling of getting cheered off by 8,000 fans. It is worth the sacrifices. Our gratitude to those that travelled is consistent because it is a remarkable support.”

Former Sunderland defender Papy Djilobodji has completed his move to French club Guingamp.

The Senegalese centreback, 30, has signed a deal until the end of the season, after his contract with the Black Cats was terminated in September.

Guingamp, who are bottom of the French first division, have confirmed Djilobodji has signed a sixmonth contract and the defender wants to help them “stay in Ligue 1 at the end of the season.”

The Brittany-based club are six points adrift from safety after picking up 11 points from 18 games.

Djilobodji is set to join up with former Sunderland team-mate Didier Ndong, 24, at Guingamp.

The pair cost the Black Cats a combined total of £21.6million in transfer fees but were sacked by the club after going AWOL in the summer.
