Peterlee fly the flag with win over Durham in County Cup

Peterlee Catholic Club are carrying the flag for the Chilla Pizza Peterlee & District Sunday League in the Durham County Sunday Cup after a 2-1 third-round win over Durham County.

Goals from Jack Pounder and Michael Robson handed the Catholics a fourth-round tie against Boldon Shack, who beat holders Dawdon Welfare Park 2-1.

In the Premier Division, Horden DLI moved up to third when a goal from Robert Renwick proved enough to defeat Easington Lane WMC.

Peterlee Helford United have lost nine consecutiv­e matches, goals from Jack Healer and Rhys Turnbull insufficie­nt to prevent a 4-2 defeat to Easington Colliery Club Mechanics, whose reply came with a double from Nathan Graham along with efforts from Thomas Bott and Rhys Williams.

In the only First Division game played, Michael Ridley and Ali Shah netted for Horden Cricket Club when they picked up three points in a 2-0 win against Hetton Lyons FC.

In the Second Division, a Stephen Fletcher brace plus efforts from John Kennedy and Adam Barnaby saw Easington Victory beat New Seaham Westlea 4-2, Simon Jacobs notching a brace for Westlea.

A hat-trick from Tom Clark plus further goals from Charlie Owen, Matthew Griffiths, Andrew Elliott and Ali Basher Hassan saw Sherburn United defeat Haswell Oddfellows Arms 7-1.

Easington CIU cruised to a 3-0 win against Seaham Marlboroug­h to reach the Tommy Burrell Memorial Cup semifinals thanks to goals from Adrian Sanders, Liam Cooke and Liam Adamson.

Easington Leather Cap and Easington Southside both reached the semi-finals of the Cyril Dunn Memorial Cup after hard-earned quarterfin­al success in their respective second-leg encounters against South Hetton Cricket Club and Peterlee Hearts.

Shotton Comrades made it into the semi-final of the First Division League Cup when a hat-trick from Philip Hickman, a brace from Michael Boardman plus strikes from Jai Grant and Nathan Grainger saw them enjoy a 7-2 win against Wingate Grange, for whom John Bartley fired a brace.

Peterlee Acre Rigg Celtic reached the last four of the Second Division League Cup when goals from John Brown, Graeme Ashcroft, Alan Smith and Greg O’Brien saw them cruise to a 4-0 second-leg win against East Durham FC.

In the first-leg quarter-final tie, Thornley Harry’s Bar and Wingate Howden finished all square at 3-3.

Two goals from Ryan Lamb and an effort from Ethan Maddison for Harry’s Bar were chalked out by a brace from Jamie Bennett and a strike from Martin Mason.
