Vic closing in on Second Division title with Myers in the mire

The Queen Vic have the Second Division title in their sights, and are eyeing up promotion.

A dominating performanc­e at mid-table side Park View resulted in a convincing 4-0 win courtesy of goals from Muir, Morris, Hildrew and Stavers.

Myers are back in the mire after yet another defeat, this time to relegation rivals Washington New Tavern.

The Tav, on the other hand, moved away from the bottom of the league with an easy 4-0 win, thanks to goals from Corrighan, Robinson, Mason and Neal.

Tucker stood out for the home team.

Redhouse emerged as 7-4 victors over The Grange as they went head to head in an 11-goal thriller.

Jack Callaghan was on fire as he smashed five goals for Redhouse, and Liam Goldsmith scored two to make it seven in total.

The Grange had Lane, Perry, Atchison and Lawrence reduce the deficit.

Ryhope CW threw a spanner in the works for Washington Athletic as they look to gain automatic promotion to the First Division, winning 3-2.

Matty Johnstone hit the net twice, and Matty Jones also scored before Athletic called on Cooper and Ingram to net.

Stalwart Steve Trotter rolled back the years with a classy hat-trick in a 4-2 home win over Ryhope that takes The Board Inn into joint-third in the table.

Ryhope kept themselves interested with efforts from Middlebroo­k and Douglas but a goal for Gould completed the win.

And The Kings Arms are slowly moving up to the cherished promotion spots after narrowly beating the Victory Club 2-1.

Adam Brown’s strike for the Club was cancelled out with goals from Langton and Cooper for the Kingsmen.

The only game in the Third Division saw Penshaw CC move into second place behind leaders Oddies.

Doubles from Aaron Brennan and Jonathon Snelling helped Penshaw to a 4-1 home win against Millview CIU, for whom Conlin scored.

Making light of that in Group A of the Third Division Subsiduary Cup, hat-tricks from Tony Ganley and Brad Timm gave Oddies a 6-3 win over Witherwack.

Ralph Dodds, Lemming and Gough-Armstrong replied.

Wear United suffered a shock defeat as lowly Sunderland North edged a 3-1 home win.

Micky Graham hit a brace, Thompson added a goal and United could only respond once via Sam Wade.

In Third Division Subsiduary Cup Group B, Grindon Broadway shared a 3-3 draw with Lakeside SSC.

Usher scored a double for The Lakers, and Barrass also scored once.

Broadway rallied back through Middleton, Williams and Young.

And Millfield Free Gardeners recorded the highest-ever scoreline in their history with a 9-1 romp over Washington Blue Bell.

Redpath struck a hat-trick, Brown and Jones both bagged braces, and Gregory and Newman piled on the misery for the Bell.

In Fourth Division Subsiduary Cup Group A, Ashbrooke Rosedene won 2-1 at The Carpets Centre Elite.

Supersub Jason Turnbull scored twice, while Harrison found the net for the Carpetmen.

And in Group B of the Fourth Division Subsiduary Cup, AFC Houghton played out a spirited performanc­e against title contenders Hall Farm Doxy Lad.

But it was all in vain as the Doxy Lad side edged the game 2-1.

Smith and Pearce won it for the Doxy Lad, and Teasdale replied for Houghton in a worthy
