Lumley stun league leaders with ruthless performanc­e

Lumley produced a stunning team performanc­e to derail South Hylton B’s title quest in the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League.

Lumley welcomed the league leaders and began well with Sean Henderson winning the first frame against Ian Stewart, with the aid of a 22 break.

Alec Hannan won a black ball second frame against Bobby Boyce 52-45, before Neil Lowden won the third frame against Tony Hazard 54-15.

Andrew Drinkwater potted well to win the fourth frame, beating John Harrison 65-36.

However, Boyce/Tony Hazard won Hylton a consolatio­n point when winning the pairs frame against Roful Hoque/ Brian Meuse 61-19, as the game ended in a 4-1 success to Lumley.

Glendale travelled to South Hylton A and got off to a winning started with Thomas Gwyn winning the first frame against Steven Thompson 7930, before a 33 break helped Adam Smith level the match.

John Wiseman moved Glendale back into the lead against Graham Rutland, before Gavin Dixon potted well winning the fourth frame against Paul Atkinson 66-41.

In the pairs, an excellent 25 clearance by Wiseman, when paired with Paul Atkinson, pinched the frame beating Adam Smith/Dixon 65-62 for an excellent 3-2 win.

Andy Newby got The Victory off to a good start at home to Pennywell Comrades A winning the first frame against Kevin Harrop 64-37, before Darren Dowell won the second frame against Joe Turner 58-44.

Ray James increased the lead against Stuart Taylor 6831, before Dean Taylor pulled one back for Pennywell when defeating Bobby Smith 81-43.

In the pairs, Taylor/Harrop beat James/John Butler 68-58 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Steels welcomed Seaham Conservati­ves A and had Lee Norton winning the first frame against Gary Stockton 69-57.

Tommy Ayre then clinched the second frame against Michael Monaghan 70-43.

Ian Hughes pulled one back for Seaham when beating Ray Charlton Junior 71-46, before Ray Charlton Senior won a close fourth frame against Les Pinder 39-29.

In the pairs, Jimmy Gales/ Vince Flynn beat Michael Monaghan/Les Pinder 55-41 for an excellent 4-1 win.

Pennywell Comrades B got off to a good start at home to Boldon CA, with Andrew Doran winning the first frame against John Smith 69-57.

However, Graeme Ablett levelled the match when he won a close second frame against John Campbell 70-63.

A 23 break helped Mark Fox move Boldon into the lead, edging past Anthony Longstaff 7260, before Michael Grieveson won a black ball fourth frame against Eddie Dodds 62-60.

In the pairs Doran/Campbell beat Fox/Grieveson 58-52 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

The match between Murton Officials and Biddick A was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Murton took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.

Biddick B played Mill View, but sadly no scorecard has been received and as a result, Biddick have been docked two points.
