Make a splash this half term

-

Washington Wetland Centre is ready to cause a splash with its half term fun.

The centre will be hosting the 2019 Puddle Jumping Championships to keep young ones entertained over the school break.

Families and friends will be able to warm up in the puddle jumping practice zone before challenging each other to a race around the Welly Boot Camp obstacle course.

The event will be rounded off with a splashtastic jumping finale.

Teams will also be able to take part in welly wanging, a welly shy and ceramic welly boot decorating.

WWT Washington centre manager Gill Pipes said: “We know that children love nothing more than to splash about in puddles, so we’re giving them the chance to channel their inner splash er with this fun event.

“We also believe that children who love puddles grow up to be adults that love the outdoors, so through these championships we’re gently nurturing a passion that may help protect wetlands and the wildlife that depend on them for years to come.”

The event will run from Saturday, February 16 to Sunday, February 24 and is open to all ages.

Some parts of the course will require adult help for younger children.

Puddle jumping is included as part of normal admission, or free for WWT members.

Book online to save 10% on general admission tickets.

WWT Washington will also be hosting an ‘In Focus’ event on Sunday, February 24 to give visitors the chance to test, select and buy state of the art binoculars and telescopes under field conditions.

A percentage of every sale will be donated to WWT to fund its conservation work.
