MARK OF APPROVAL AS KERR RETURNS TO STAR

COLLINGWOOD GLAD TO BE REUNITED WITH LEE AFTER LOSING NICK ALLEN TO CONSETT

-

Seaham Red Star have rounded off a positive weekend for the club by finalising a move to take three-time FA Vase winner Lee Kerr back to the Ferguson Motor Repairs Stadium.

Mark Collingwood’s side claimed a hard-earned three points with an impressive 1-0 home win against promotionchasing Consett on Saturday and confirmed the signing of Kerr just over 24 hours later.

The move means that Collingwood is reunited with a player that spent a loan spell at Red Star in 2014 and helped the club to promotion into the Northern League’s top-flight in the same season.

That move became permanent at the end of that campaign and Kerr went on to make 138 appearances for the club over the following two years, before departing for Jarrow Roofing.

Earlier in his career, he became a club legend at Whitley Bay as he played and scored in all three of the Seahorses’ FA Vase Final wins between 2009 and 2011.

Kerr was not in the Hebburn Town squad that were knocked out of the FA Vase by Northern League rivals West Auckland Town on Saturday and wrapped up a move to Red Star on Sunday afternoon.

Collingwood admitted that Kerr’s return was a boost following the departure of Nick Allen to Consett.

He told the club’s website: “We needed a playmaker to replace Nick Allen and our attitude is that we won’t sign a high-profile player unless he’s better than we currently
