Motor mechanic was geared up for success in competition
Bright spark Vicky Ireland was beating the boys at their own game.
Vicky, 19, beat off competition from across the North to be named mechanical trainee of the year by ReMit, the UK’s largest motor industry training body.
She was already the first Wearside College motor mechanic student to gain a National Vocational Qualification level 2.
The trainee vehicle technician picked up her City and Guilds in motor vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.
Now Vicky, who is a previous Apprentice of the Year at Reg Vardy’s Newcastle Road dealership, plans to work towards a level 3 qualification.
“I’ve always wanted to be a motor mechanic since being little,” said Vicky, who hails from the Castletown area.
“I was always helping my dad in the garage.”
Wearside College tutor Jack Smurthwaite said: “Vicky is a quite outstanding student and her commitment and enthusiasm are a pleasure to see.”
