Lakesiders leapfrog promotion rivals Mill

Lakeside SSC leapfrogge­d Millview CIU in the Sunderland Sunday League Third Division with a 3-1 away win that boosted their promotion hopes.

Waterson, Middlemiss and Lewis Murton scored for the Lakers, Richardson replying.

In the Fourth Division, Ashbrooke Rosedene won 3-2 against Velocity Burton House, for whom Luke Conlin saw red.

Micky Brown scored two and Leonard one, Keiran Beattie with a double in response.

In Third Division Subsiduary Cup Group A, Oddies drew 5-5 with Wear United having trailed 4-2 at half-time.

Wade (2), Walters, Taylor and Higgins scored for United, Paul Maw (2), Lax, Brad Timm and Adams for Oddies.

In Group B, Penshaw CC look likely to progress after a 5-2 win over Grindon Broadway SC.

Priestman (2), Binks, Winter and Heywood scored for Penshaw and Hourigan and Williams replied.

In Fourth Division Subsiduary Cup Group A, The Carpets Centre Elite floored the Washington Cherry Tree with a 100 away win, Mark Dolan claiming a double hat-trick followed by goals from Farquhar, Robins, Rose and an own goal.

Connor Armstrong’s brace earned a rare win for Whitburn Panthers as they toppled Washington United 2-1. Cameron scored a late goal for United.

Hall Farm Doxy Lad made it three wins out of three in Group B, beating Washington Duke 3-1 thanks to Lee Pearce (2) and Elliott.

And also in Group B, AFC Houghton won 9-1 against Washington North Biddick, Lee Gaunt with six, Adam Teasdale two and James Brown one, Jason Storey with the consolatio­n goal.

In the Total Sport Challenge Trophy Third Round, Pennywell Comrades sent shockwaves through all five divisions as they beat Premier League RCA Grangetown Florists 1-0.
