Landscape set for winning stable debut

-

Cosmic Landscape can make a winning start for William Jarvis in the 32Red Handicap at Kempton tomorrow.

Previously trained by Jamie Osborne and then Dominic Ffrench Davis, the four-year-old sprang a 25-1 shock when getting his head in front for the latter handler last month.

Having his third career start, Cosmic Landscape was always prominent over an extended nine furlongs and found plenty for pressure at the finish to run out a head winner - with the first three pulling clear of the rest.

Cosmic Landscape was probably good value for the winning margin in the end, and Jarvis clearly thinks a starting mark of 78 is pretty workable after stumping up £30,000 at the end of last month for this Lawman colt.

Stepping up to a mile and three furlongs here, Cosmic Landscape can continue to make gains.

Soar Above saw his four-timer foiled at this track last time, but he can get back on track in the 32Red.com Handicap.

Twice a winner for John Butler at the back-end of last year, Soar Above then switched to the care of Paul D’Arcy in December and promptly ran out a cosy winner at the Sunbury track in December.

However, his streak was halted when he had to contend with a 5lb hike and a rise in company last month - although there was no shame in finishing fourth, beaten just a neck in a thrilling finish.

That was still a decent effort, and the handicapper has been pretty fair in leaving his mark alone.

Portledge was another to lose out by a narrow margin on his most recent effort going into Newcastle’s sunracing. co.uk Handicap.

The five-year-old looked all set for victory when challenging with a furlong to run at this track - but the winner dug deep to repel his charge, and Portledge had to settle for a half-length second.

A 1lb rise might seem a bit tough, but Portledge may still be good enough.

Justice Lady can make a victorious 2019 debut in the Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap.

Last seen when a narrow second back in October, she is no doubt talented on her day, and a mark of 76 still appears quite generous.

Tommy Silver suffered some misfortune at Ludlow last time, but compensation awaits in the Forbra Gold Cup Handicap Chase back at that track.

Paul Nicholls’ runner looked placed to take a hand in the finish only to be carried out with four fences still to jump.

Having previously disappointed at Kempton, it was nice to see Tommy Silver’s jumping had sharpened up - and he can kick on again now.

Monsieur Co is the choice in the racingtv.com Handicap Chase at Musselburgh, after he recently bounced back to wining form at Kelso.

Rated as high as 141 when trained by Nicholls, his current perch of 121 must surely make Keith Dalgleish smile.

Master Baker looks a decent shout in the Richard Williams Memorial “Grassroots” Hunters’ Chase at Taunton, despite not having raced since last June.
