WESTWOOD BAG VICTORY

SWINBURNE MADDISON SOLICITORS DURHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE

-

A goal from in-form striker Alan Wilson and a fine leftfooted finish from Philip Marriott saw Washington Westwood bag all three points in a 2-0 win against Chester-le-Street Whitehills.

Westwood started quickly and were 1-0 up within 10 minutes - and it could have been more if chances had been taken.

Whitehills came back into the game and were unfortunate when a scramble in the box ended up with a goal-line clearance.

Whitehills pushed forwards in the second half but couldn’t create a clear-cut chance and were punished on the counter attack by Westwood.

At 2-0, Whitehills continued to try to get back into the game and forced the keeper into a good save as well as hitting the post from a free kick.

Brandon ran out 8-0 winners against Chester-leStreet Garden Farm, who were shorthanded on their arrival at Brandon.

Steven Parnaby scored five goals, with Scott Bryden, Paul Harland and Jake Williamson also on target.

Dubmire WMC drew 2-2 with Ouston Juniors.

In a game of two halves, Dubmire went 2-0 up with goals on 15 and 40 minutes.

Ouston were better after the break with goals from Harvey Simpson and a wonderful chip from man-of-thematch Brad Clarke.

Sherburn Village were 2-1 winners against Chilton WMC.

A defensive calamity gifted Sherburn an easy lead, through Glenn Hendrix.

Chilton levelled with a superb finish from Chris Smith.

A fairly equal game was eventually decided with a heavily-deflected Sherburn shot from Jamie Taylor with 15 minutes remaining.

Pelton RAOB had goals from Joe Barwick and Michael Graver in a 2-0 win against Ferryhill Celtic.

Houghton Town went down to a 3-1 defeat to Sedgefield St Edmunds.

Aycliffe took the lead early in the first half but Wild Boar soon equalized when a Liam Lusk free kick beat the Aycliffe keeper.

Ryan Smith scored for Grange Villa.

Lumley Snooker Clib sealed a 2-0 win away to Lumley.

The away team took the game to the home side early on, creating some good early chances but failing to find the break through.

It took a cross from the left from Steven Jackson to find David Tyson, who finished well with his head.

The margin should have been more but chances missed from Stephen Wood and Lee Mcbeth kept the game at 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, chances again came and went for the Snooker Club, but when Lee Mcbeth took the ball in his stride and slotted past the keeper the game was over.

Sherburn Village WMC powered to an easy 6-0 win against Framwellgate Moor WMC.

Callum Bramwell and Jon Steel scored for the home side, with Calum Greaves, Keegan Spencer, Luke Muldown and Mitchell Bowater on target for the winners.

Leaders Hetton New Inn were held to a 2-2 draw by Houghton Chilton Lodge.

On paper, this should have been an easy three points for New Inn, but Houghton Chilton Lodge were buoyant after their victory last time out against high fliers Ferryhill.

Hetton had the better of the chances in the first half as they played up the hill but it was Chilton Lodge who took the lead just after the half hour mark.

Chilton keeper Armstrong’s long kick forward evaded the Hetton defence and Iain Macpherson managed to get a toe to it.

In the second half, Hetton played much the better football but scored a lucky equaliser when Daniel Summerhill’s shot was turned into his own net by the Chilton keeper.

Hetton took the lead through Mark Jacomb. The final 20 minutes saw Chilton Lodge battling hard, and they got their reward at the death.

Phil Steel crossed the ball in Ian Davidson rose highest and headed it past the keeper.
