‘Eggstra’ reasons to help kids

- By Richard Ord

Austerity, fears over Brexit and an economy experiencing jitters at almost every turn is not and environment conducive to largesse.

Fortunately, in our community, generosity is not hampered by outside influence.

Every year, no matter what the economic climate, we are bowled over by the generosity of Wearsiders.

In recent years we have seen high-profile fundraising campaigns, such as the efforts made in Bradley Lowery’s name and even our own Christmas Toy Appeal, receiving incredible support.

And all this at a time when the country was in the grip of Government austerity.

Today we launch our Easter Egg Appeal in conjunction with the Hope 4 Kidz charity to help disadvantaged youngsters. And there’s no reason to think you response will not be as generous as it always is.

To make life as easy as possible, we have drop off points throughout our community and our thanks to do all the organisations who have offered to help.

Giving the gift of an Easter egg may sound like a small gesture, but the positive effect it can have on the recipient is massive.

Just ask Viv Watts, of Hope 4 Kidz.

As she tells today: “The response in the past has been amazing, absolutely amazing.

“There’s still a real need for our help because a lot of us take it for granted, where there are children who are not in that situation.

“When we hear some of the stories that come through our door, it’s heartbreaking. We’re trying to fill that gap and an Easter egg can bring that muchneeded smile to their face.”

Any donation you can make will be gratefully received. You’ll be making a young lives ‘smiles’ better.
