Marron: That was two points dropped

-

Chester-le-Street Town midfielder Craig Marron insisted that his side dropped two points in their home draw against Easington Colliery.

Quickfire strikes from Cestrians duo Rhys Turnbull and Andrew Clarkson gave the hosts a two-goal advantage at the halfway point of the first-half.

The two sides were level at the break as Colliers recent signings Niall McGoldrick and Josh HomeJackson both found the net to get their side back on level terms.

Clarkson grabbed his second of the game five minutes into the second half and looked to have given the Cestrians all three points, but Liam Adamson’s equaliser 11 minutes from time ensured that the spoils were shared.

Marron told The Echo: “Despite the signings they have made, if you go two up, you should be winning the game.

“Even with a two-goal lead we never looked comfortable. It feels like two points dropped, even though we know that they have improved a lot recently.

“I still feel that with six league games left, we have to be trying to stake a claim for a place in the team for the final.

“I’m not a fan of looking after yourself until the final, you should want to play every game and make sure you get a place in the team for that game.”

Billingham Town moved back to the top of the table with a narrow home win against Crook Town.

Ash Lavan grabbed the only goal of the game four minutes from time.

Jarrow FC eased their way to a 4-0 home win against struggling Brandon United thanks to goals from Jonathan Wightman, David Smith and Jonathan Hirst and an own-goal from James Connor.

Redcar Athletic mounted a remarkable comeback as two goals in second-half injury-time helped them claim a point from their home game against Esh Winning.

Jordan Stephens and Nick Marley scored for Esh, but Lance Skelton and Adam Preston hit back.
