Juniors School between 1960 and 1985 and will be well known by ex-pupils. When son Stephen joined the 1st Peterlee Scouts they started helping with fundraising for a Scout hut, Audrey was secretary and George treasurer, helping organise dances, car boot sales and a stall at Peterlee Carnivals. With her husband George, who died in 2001, on the death of their grand-daughter Louise with meningitis the family ran bingo evenings in Seaton Holme and other fundraising events in Peterlee sending £52,000 to the Meningitis Trust. She leaves a son Stephen, daughter Janet four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The last three were premature triplets born to Stacy on November 28, 2018, who Audrey managed to see. Her funeral is on Friday at 11am at Easington Methodist Church then Durham Crematorium at noon. All welcome go along. A group of Easington Academy Year 10 students hosted Duke of Edinburgh training workshops with Year 9 students. The Year 10 students involved are currently completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award in which they need to complete four sections; volunteering, skills, physical and then their expedition. For the skills and volunteering section, they offered to train Year 9 Bronze students to enable them to learn map reading skills, how to prepare and cook meals using camping stoves, how to pack their rucksacks, safely, how to put up tents and more. DofE staff leaders were very impressed by how well the sessions were planned and delivered with all the Year 9 students engaged at all times. The final concert featuring the Mighty Compton Organ and presented by the Sunderland Theatre Organ Preservation Society will take place Sunday, at 2.30pm. The organist will be the popular Howard Beaumont, who was a founder member of the society and played a major part in rescuing the organ when the Odeon Cinema went over to “bingo” in 1982. Howard has just completed 30 summer seasons at Scarborough Spa playing for concerts and dancing. As a gesture to the audience who have supported the concerts over the years this final performance will be free. The concert takes place in Ryhope Community Centre, Black Road SR2 0RX. A CD has also been prepared, featuring the Compton Organ, with Howard playing a selection of popular music including show tunes, marches and light classical pieces. Brian Ibinson will be showing his film Sunderland The Way We Were accompanied with music, photographs, and clips of film. The film includes Wearmouth Bridge being opened, Roker Park Football Ground from the 1950s, the War Years in Sunderland and the many bombings, the Great Department Stores, Binns, Joblings and many more that have long gone. Also featured will be the cinemas, The Regal, The Gaumont, The Ritz. You can also see the films that you went to see all those years ago when there was a cinema on every corner. The film includes lots more. Go along for a nostalgic trip down memory lane into Sunderland’s Past on Wednesday, March 20, at Ryhope Community Centre, doors open 1pm to start at 1.30pm. As the work at St Andrew’s continues all services will be The Ladies Club meets every Monday from 6.45pm to 8.45pm in St John’s Parish Room to enjoy a programme including speakers, films and friendship.
